NAMI Northern Virginia is a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. A 46-year-old independent non-profit service organization, our mission is to serve Northern Virginia individuals, family members, and friends affected by mental health challenges through awareness, education, support, advocacy, and collaboration with community partners. NAMI Northern Virginia and our volunteers work together to raise awareness and bring hope through our programs and events.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Manager of Adult and Family Programs, the Programs and Volunteer Assistant is responsible for assisting with programs and evaluation, as well as recruitment, training, and placement of volunteers for programs, outreach, administrative and miscellaneous activities. He/she will work with the Manager of Adult and Family Programs to respond to identified needs by matching capable, responsible volunteers to appropriate roles. It will be the responsibility of the Programs and Volunteer Assistant to ensure that each volunteer is appropriately trained (by NAMI or internally, as needed), to identify training needs, and to schedule training opportunities.

The Program Assistant will be responsible for helping the Manager of Adult and Family Programs to efficiently operate our current programs and support the growth of NAMI NoVA’s reach and connection with the community. This individual will actively seek opportunities to further our impact in new and creative ways.

An ideal candidate would feel comfortable working in the office and be excited to contribute to the team’s success. This individual would be resourceful, curious, and able to quickly pick up and run administrative tasks like data entry, scheduling, and material preparation. And finally, they would show a dedication to advocacy and facilitation and understanding of mental health among the public.
